Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Series with Novellas

top ten tuesdays
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week’s theme is supposed to be Favorite Novellas/Short Stories, but I apparently …. don’t read short stories? Aside from required reading back in school—and I wasn’t looking to go so far down memory lane—I can’t think of any short stories I’ve read outside of the occasional novella for series that I follow. So I decided to put a slight twist on the topic and instead make it Favorite Series with Novellas.

I focused on book series I’ve read at least one book from, even if that book wasn’t a novella. And to be completely honest, even with those caveats, I *really* struggled to come up with this list. Shorter books just really aren’t my thing!

For my picks, I’ve included the cover and synopsis of the first book in each series with the cover linked to the series page on Goodreads. Check out my picks below!

Top Ten Tuesday: Frequently Used Words in Thriller Titles

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Oh, this was such a fun prompt! I’m playing loose with the genre here, mostly because mystery, thriller, and crime novels blur the lines for me. All of the covers link to the Goodreads pages of the books if you’re interested in checking any out.

Top Ten Tuesday: “School” Books

top ten tuesdays
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

For this week’s freebie topic, I decided to do a bit of a throwback and figure out which were my favorite “required reads” from my school days. I’ve tagged each book below with my approximate age while reading it – primary school is years 1-6 of schooling; middle is years 7-8, and high school is 9-12. Since I studied STEM subjects in university, high school was the last time I had required reading that could be counted as literature, so I stopped there. *glares Hamlet down* See any that remind you of projects and essays and sleepless nights?

Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Liked but Wouldn’t Re-Read

top ten tuesdays
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This list was a bit of a challenge, too. If I liked a book, I probably wouldn’t mind rereading it at some point. But I’m not much of a re-reader these days – too many great new books popping up on my radar – so this theme makes more sense to me as “which books did you like but when pressed for time aren’t your go-to rereads.” I had fun putting together this list! See anything familiar?

Top Ten Tuesday: Characters I Liked in Non-Favorite Books

top ten tuesdays
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This list was so hard. It’s rare for me to truly dislike a book – I’m either really lucky in my picks or just do a great job of avoiding ones I don’t think will do it for me. And when I do hate books, it’s usually because there’s not a single likable character to be found or I don’t remember any of the characters.

For this theme, I’m going to choose characters I appreciated in books that weren’t favorites of mine – which only means, if a book is on this list, it’s not one of the few books on my favorites shelf. There are a good handful in here I actively disliked … and some characters whose names I honestly can’t remember … but for the most part, plenty of these were decent reads with characters that stood out to me for one reason or another.

Top Ten Tuesday: Books Taking Place in Another Country

This was such a fun prompt. Most of these are books I’ve already read and adored for the way they transported me to other places, but a couple I’ve yet to tackle and just look wonderful! All of the book covers link to their Goodreads pages in case the travel bug bites you, too.
