When you read this book, you will make many assumptions.
You will assume you are reading about a jealous wife and her obsession with her replacement.
You will assume you are reading about a woman about to enter a new marriage with the man she loves.
You will assume the first wife was a disaster and that the husband was well rid of her.
You will assume you know the motives, the history, the anatomy of the relationships.
Assume nothing.
When hype for this book started appearing on my feeds a couple months ago, everyone was so tight-lipped that I couldn’t help but be intrigued. That simple, haunting blurb was essentially all that I knew going in, but now I’ve got to say, I understand all the purposely vague reviews because, after breezing through The Wife Between Us and being shocked by twist after twist … now I’m writing one, too 🙂
The core of the plot is simple: a love triangle between a woman, her ex-husband, and the younger woman whom he left her for. Sounds simple enough, but the truth is a lot more convoluted and intricate than that. This is one crazy, twisty ride that will have you shifting your understanding of everything you thought you knew, and just as you think you’ve got it figured out, it happens all over again. Ridden with unreliable narrators, half-truths, and cards played close to the chest, The Wife Between Us was so much fun to read. I was casting suspicion on even the most minuscule of actions and second-guessing myself every step of the way. Loved it!
There were a couple minor things that prevented me from giving the full five stars, but they were intrinsic to the style of the story. For example, the timeline could sometimes be hard to follow, but only because we’d go back and revisit scenes with new knowledge after the plot twists … and I’d still be reeling from whatever the twist had been, so it was a little harder to catch my footing. It was also hard for me to connect with some of the characters, but it wasn’t a deal breaker because imminent revelations shed light on their motives. And even though I felt distanced from the narrator at times, it was well worth it to pull off the impact of the ending of each section of the novel.
I had a blast reading this book! Listen to that blurb. Make no assumptions. Just let yourself get tugged along for a crazy and entertaining ride.

Great review Kaila! I loved the midpoint twist and was totally caught off guard. You have to go in assuming nothing!

You really do! I was trying so hard to guess what that first twist was going to be that I was completely unprepared for the ones that came after 😂
