Throwback Thursday: April 19, 2018

throwback thursdays
Throwback Thursday is a weekly meme created by Renee @ It’s Book Talk. This meme lets you share old favorites published over a year ago or books that you just never got to! My list of those is miles long. If you’re interested in participating, too, check out her latest post!

This Week’s Pick

47763Title: I Know What You Did Last Summer

Author: Lois Duncan

Genre: YA Thriller

Publication Year: 1973 (but I read the version republished in 1999)

It was only an accident — but it would change their lives forever. Last summer, four terrified friends made a desperate pact to conceal a shocking secret. But some secrets don’t stay buried, and someone has learned the truth. Someone bent on revenge. This summer, the horror is only beginning….

I was just thinking about this book the other day and figured it was a great excuse to jump back on this meme!

I’d nearly forgotten about it, but there was a period in my teenage years when I was obsessed with Lois Duncan’s thriller novels. I still remember the YA corner’s paperback display rack that I’d peruse every week at the library, hoping to catch sight of a book of hers I hadn’t read before. I don’t remember any of the details of the plots, but I just pulled up Lois Duncan’s author page on Goodreads and was hit with a wave of nostalgia looking over the titles: Down a Dark Hall and Killing Mr. Griffin are two other novels of hers I remember enjoying.

I haven’t seen this movie (my terror of horror movies or anything with jump scares absolutely contradicts my taste in books, which amuses me to no end and is a discussion for a whole other post) and at this point I can barely recall beyond the bare bones of the plot, but I’m pretty sure this is where my initial appreciation for the thriller reading genre started falling into place!

Has anyone else read this book or seen the movie? Are there any authors from your childhood that have shaped your reading tastes to this day?

  1. I haven’t read the book, but I’ve seen the movies too many times to count. My friends and I were obsessed with slasher movies growing up and that one was one of our favorites. I’m not that into horror/thriller novels though, unless they’re compared to 90’s slasher movies (like Final Girls), then I’m totally here for it 🙂
